My coworker is selling his 50D and some of his lenses. I think that I can get a really good deal. (thought about buying it for me)

Last comment. I promise. The 18-200 does not have USM (ultrasonic motor for very fast, smooth autofocus). Especially with the super long focal range, this feature is invaluable (especially when you're getting action shots of the doggy).
The 17-85 does have USM.
I can totally tell the difference between my USM and non-USM lenses. It's a really, really nice to have.
